READING REFLECTION 9

WRITING REFLECTION 9

I have found that this past week that school is getting a little too personal  I find that it’s sort’ve embarrassing tweeting these on my actual account, but whatever. I guess I could’ve made a new account but it just seemed like too much work, plus I like being able to access the account from my phone. I do like the fact that we are able to use twitter to be productive as oppose to making pointless tweets hoping to get a response or a RT. My goals for twitter now are to get RT’ed or responded to by Carrie Underwood. My twitter dreams need to be fulfilled.

As for the list of things to do before I die, I have gotten to almost 80 and I’m stumped. I could just put random ones on there but I actually really have wanted to do everything I’ve come up with.  The fact that we got retweeted by the buried life is pretty cool, just because we’ve actually been acknowledged for our work online. My favourite idea that I came up with is to participate in “La Tomatina” which is a massive tomato fight in Italy. I figured I should explain it somewhere before I posted it on twitter.
I love this project so far !

READING REFLECTION 8

Book: Fall to Pieces
Author: Mary Forsberg Weiland
Pages: 14-26

Up to this point I am still getting introduced to the main people in the story and have yet to have any real action take place, which is always the perfect time to make a prediction. I’ve learnt that this is based on a true story which usually makes an easier prediction. Judging by the first few pages I’ve gotten through, I think that the main character (Weiland) has obviously had a rough upbringing and life in general. Her family is broken up, they are very religious and she is alone.
I predict that the memoir of this woman’s life is going to be filled with regrets and mistakes. One thing I found really interesting were the legends her grandmother told her from the Catholic Church “If you get scratched in the eye by a cat, you’ll see ghosts” “do not jump up and down or your guts will fall out” “don’t ever pick up a solitary baby in the desert with the idea that your rescuing it” and “ if you are pregnant, always carry  a pair of scissors in your pocket in the event of an eclipse otherwise your baby will have a harelip”. I hadn’t personally ever heard of these legends but they seem pretty legit to me.

As a text to world connection, in their family the dad leaves them for his own wellbeing. This unfortunately happens more often than needed in our society today.

WRITING REFLECTION 8

The past week was actually really fun besides the constant headaches I had frokm the sharpie fumes. Blackout poetry is possibly one of the easiest things to accomplish yet very hard. You could easily circle random words that fit together to complete a poem, but when it comes to actually making the words mean something, that’s the challenge. I found myself circling words I wanted to be in my poem but I could never figure out a way for them to work. My theme for my trio ended up being food.  The way I made them, could have a different meaning to anyone.
Compared to the previous writing assignments we’ve done, this one stands out for being different because you are basically working backwards which makes it a lot harder when you’re trying to make something out of a limited amount of words.
I found myself really struggling to make something of this type of writing, I felt like I'm no where creative enough to have my poems make sense, but I did my best. Maybe Austin Kleon would understand.
