Coming up on graduation, I'm starting to severely worry. Everything is so overwhelming at this point in time. My exams are done this friday. Registering for courses at u of w soon. I'm going insane. Just wondering if anyone else had the same feelings at the moment ! :(

FINAL THOUGHTS

As the year is coming to an end I am obviously starting to panic a little. I realized I set my standards way to high for this course and was hoping for at least eighty percent and need higher than seventy for university, however I loved the class overall.

My favourite assignment was by far the buried life project. I loved it because we really couldn’t go wrong with our answers and opinions so it allowed us to be as creative and out there as we wanted to be. My least favourite assignment was definitely the blackout poetry. I found that without having a specific topic or boundaries it was hard for me to make something up that made sense. Too creative for me!

I wasn’t much of a fan of the Friday reading classes truthfully because I always would be working on other homework and knew that was more important than reading therefore causing me to lose my concentration towards the book.

Monday’s reading reflections were always a struggle for me because of my inability to read during the Friday classes. Which consequently only allowed me to write the maybe, three pages I had read? The writing reflections I liked though because it made me think about what I had learned within the past week.

The WRN I feel went to waste after we started blogging, however I did like the blogging a lot better. It was easier to keep up with and less paper was wasted! Also I loved that we could go on your blog and see exactly what our schedule was for the class and the week even if we weren’t there.

I liked the idea of putting twitter to good use but I regret not making a new account specifically for this class. I think my followers probably got annoyed, or confused.

The integration of technology into the course definitely made it a lot easier to do our assignments and know exactly what was going on even when we’re absent.

I learnt overall that I’m very close-minded when it comes to writing. My goal was to become a better writer and that came well with liking all the assignments.

My advice for future Creative Writing students is; don’t forget about personal additions! You’ll end up like me having to add 20 in one week.

NOW WHAT ?

Now what ?
Just turning eighteen within the past month, I have started going out to clubs/bars and have witnessed people getting kicked out or warned that they were going to get kicked out already. This inspired me and made me realize it would probably be an amazing story to tell one day. Number forty on my bucket list is “get kicked out of a bar”. I felt that at my age this would probably be the most realistic goal for now until I earn some money to accomplish my entire bucket list. For this I have many options or ways to go about getting kicked out of a bar. First of all, I could start a fight which I’m guessing would merit the consequences being kicked out. I could get cut off for being served alcohol and keep insisting I get some. I could break beer bottles on the dance floor. I could charge through the crowd knocking people over. There will always be an endless list of options to accomplish this goal of mine. When there’s a will there’s a way.

AUTHORS NOTE

Authors note,
As high school is coming to an end I’m starting to realize that life is actually a lot shorter then I believed it was. Looking back at the past 12 years being in school and I feel a little behind. Creating this bucket list made me more ambitious to go out in life and accomplish everything I had ever hoped to. A few things on my list that are in top priority are to go to a Manchester United game and to participate in La Tomatina. I have played soccer my whole life and my favourite team has always been Manchester, I know I will find a way to get to a game. I know it is possible because I will be going to Europe with my aunt in the near future and I know I could convince her to come with me. While I’m in the area, I could also go to Italy and participate in the massive tomato fight. This is also very important to me because I’ve always wanted to be in a food fight and felt this was the perfect opportunity. Watching the buried life made me realize anything is possible (if you have the time and money) and to never give up on your hopes and dreams.

READING REFLECTION 9

WRITING REFLECTION 9

I have found that this past week that school is getting a little too personal  I find that it’s sort’ve embarrassing tweeting these on my actual account, but whatever. I guess I could’ve made a new account but it just seemed like too much work, plus I like being able to access the account from my phone. I do like the fact that we are able to use twitter to be productive as oppose to making pointless tweets hoping to get a response or a RT. My goals for twitter now are to get RT’ed or responded to by Carrie Underwood. My twitter dreams need to be fulfilled.

As for the list of things to do before I die, I have gotten to almost 80 and I’m stumped. I could just put random ones on there but I actually really have wanted to do everything I’ve come up with.  The fact that we got retweeted by the buried life is pretty cool, just because we’ve actually been acknowledged for our work online. My favourite idea that I came up with is to participate in “La Tomatina” which is a massive tomato fight in Italy. I figured I should explain it somewhere before I posted it on twitter.
I love this project so far !

READING REFLECTION 8

Book: Fall to Pieces
Author: Mary Forsberg Weiland
Pages: 14-26

Up to this point I am still getting introduced to the main people in the story and have yet to have any real action take place, which is always the perfect time to make a prediction. I’ve learnt that this is based on a true story which usually makes an easier prediction. Judging by the first few pages I’ve gotten through, I think that the main character (Weiland) has obviously had a rough upbringing and life in general. Her family is broken up, they are very religious and she is alone.
I predict that the memoir of this woman’s life is going to be filled with regrets and mistakes. One thing I found really interesting were the legends her grandmother told her from the Catholic Church “If you get scratched in the eye by a cat, you’ll see ghosts” “do not jump up and down or your guts will fall out” “don’t ever pick up a solitary baby in the desert with the idea that your rescuing it” and “ if you are pregnant, always carry  a pair of scissors in your pocket in the event of an eclipse otherwise your baby will have a harelip”. I hadn’t personally ever heard of these legends but they seem pretty legit to me.

As a text to world connection, in their family the dad leaves them for his own wellbeing. This unfortunately happens more often than needed in our society today.

WRITING REFLECTION 8

The past week was actually really fun besides the constant headaches I had frokm the sharpie fumes. Blackout poetry is possibly one of the easiest things to accomplish yet very hard. You could easily circle random words that fit together to complete a poem, but when it comes to actually making the words mean something, that’s the challenge. I found myself circling words I wanted to be in my poem but I could never figure out a way for them to work. My theme for my trio ended up being food.  The way I made them, could have a different meaning to anyone.
Compared to the previous writing assignments we’ve done, this one stands out for being different because you are basically working backwards which makes it a lot harder when you’re trying to make something out of a limited amount of words.
I found myself really struggling to make something of this type of writing, I felt like I'm no where creative enough to have my poems make sense, but I did my best. Maybe Austin Kleon would understand.

WRITING REFLECTION 7

For this writing reflection I chose Hugh, Breanne and Beth ‘s blogs to comment on. I chose them because I notice that their postings are relatively easy to understand/relatable/interesting. Hugh’s post’s are always about sports, and I’ve been watching the playoffs so I pretty much know what’s going on.  Breanne’s post was about Big Band Dance, and if you’ve never gone, well you’re missing out big time. It’s a very good excuse to get dressed up and have fun. Beth’s posts are very to the point, I’ve hear that some of her own photography is on flickr and highly ranked (not in with that lingo) which I found was super neat. Overall, this task of commenting is a little forced but I guess it does help us learn more about each other and hear what others have to say.

PERSONAL ADDITION

READING REFLECTION 7

Title: Fall to Pieces
Author: Mary Forsberg Weiland
Pages read:  1-15

I have just started a new book called Fall to Pieces. I was planning on starting the Hunger games but, I lost interest… I have found in the past that books about drugs always interest me the most. Not because I can relate to the drug use but it’s just super interesting because I know of people who could easily relate to the story. The back of the book sort of gives me the impression that it is specifically about mental illness and drug use. I also found out it is a true story. When I read about true stories it makes the text to world connection a lot easier to relate. Hence how I feel it can easily relate to a lot of people I know of. I am hoping that this memoir is entertaining and doesn’t drag on like the past books I have read. I have only read a few pages up to this point but so far I like how it is structured; super easy to understand and no play on words that make you think. Ive come to the conclusion I need to find books that don’t need a long attention span and that aren’t too complicated. Just easy reading.

READING REFLECTION 6

Book: The Lost Boy
Author: Dave Pelzer

I have stopped reading my book completely. Because of fashion show I have yet to start another book but once it’s over (Monday/for next reading period) I am going to pick a new book to start. Everyone is still in the phase of the hunger games. I was super against it in the first place and had no desire at all to read any of them or see the movie, but I may have been persuaded. I’m thinking of starting the series, honestly just to know what everyone has been talking about and so everyone stops getting mad at me when I say I haven’t read them or seen it yet. Overall I am predicting a book I have yet to start, but since everyone is obsessed with them I have very high expectations and I’m really hoping they won’t be brought down. Mind you everyone went through a phase of twilight and vampires and I had no desire at all to see the movies or read the books. We’ll see… I think I might be better off reading books that are more realistic as oppose to books that literally have no relation to life or me.

My first comment was on Hugh's blog. I commented on his because he was walking around at the famine reading with his beats on his ears listening to jazz. I listened to it and it seemed super  distracting, but whatever works for ya! My second comment was on Jordyn's blog. She had shown me her dress a long time ago and i originally thought the back was the models hair because she showed me on her phone but now that i looked at it on here i can actually see the lace ! My third comment was on Breanne's blog about her Easter egg hunt. She didn't like the fact that  she had to do an Easter egg hunt with her sister. I however would kill for my mom to set one up for me again. I don't want to grow up.

I find commenting on others' blogs hard because I never really know what to write first of all and second, they never respond. Hopefully I'll get something out of it this time ! Commenting on someones blog is almost only completely not awkward if your friends with the person. which is why i chose Hugh Jordyn and Breanne.

READING REFLECTION 5

Book: The Lost Boy
Author: Dave Pelzer
Pages: Chapter 5

Still reading the same book I have been for the past month. I’ve found recently that I have no time to read at home anymore so I’m not really getting much further in my book besides when we silent read in class. Even in the silent reading classes I feel like I could be doing something else and I’m starting to have trouble concentrating on my book. Good thing it’s not too hard to follow. I really wish I liked reading more. Everyone just finished going through the phase of reading the hunger games and I literally had no desire to read them even though everyone said that they’re amazing. I feel like I’m having trouble motivating myself to read I guess. I was super into my book in the beginning and thought it was so good and now I could care less. Time to switch books, to get my interest back.
I have gotten to the point in my book where I don’t have any hope of anything else happening worth staying around for. No more problems, climax or exciting events.

WRITING REFLECTION 5

This past week working on “my moment” I guess really in my eyes didn’t go too well. The VAKS’ing and show don’t tell things are still a little foreign to me. I feel like my moment could still use some work but I really wouldn’t know where to start.
I looked up “fan fiction” on google really having no clue what it was, and from what I read it is almost a response to a book that its fans write about  and it is never published. Don’t fully comprehend it, but I guess it could be interesting.
I think we could do the twitter thing. It actually takes a lot of effort coming up with a cleaver tweet that is within the character limit and it really makes you think of what you’re writing, if some of what you’ve written is necessary or not. I’d like to try it !
